How can we eat with acknowledging the stories connected to the food?

A cookery performance becomes a way to explore the knowledge and power concealed in recipes.
During the performance, apple pie recipes from visitors are collected and prepared.
The traditional Dutch pie becomes a means of telling stories about national heritage, domestic labour and recipe sharing.

Stories are provoked by embroidered tablecloths and later collected in a collaborative recipe book.

We use the kitchen to engage in performative dialogue, centred around baking and sharing of recipes.
With cooking situated in art and design contexts they unpack food systems in all its complexity, its stories, logistics and cultural values.

We presented this project for the first time at the Dutch Design Week 2021, and developed the project further for Het Nieuwe Instituut in 2022.
